Figures reveal trends and growth in self-employment

The number of self-employed people in the UK has increased from 3.3 million in 2001 to 4.8 million in 2017, according to the latest figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS). The self-employed now account for around 15% of the total labour force in the UK, up from 12% in 2001. The figures have also revealed significant growth in the number of self-employed who work on their own or with a partner, but without any employees. This group has increased from 2.4 million in 2001 to 4 million in 2017.
