Social media guidance for charities

The Charity Commission has issued new guidance on charities’ use of social media. The guidance recommends that every charity using social media should have a social media policy in place and ensure it is followed.

Charities and community organisations that are supporting vulnerable people during the cost of living crisis can apply for grants as part of a £76 million Government support package. Grants between £10,000 and £75,000 are available to cover project and core costs, including rent, utilities, staff and volunteers.

The Law Commission will review the legal frameworks governing co-operatives and community benefit societies, and friendly societies. The review will consider whether the current law which governs these organisations is fitting to their nature and needs, and whether the regulation is proportionate.

Changes introduced by the Charities Act 2022 have come into force. The changes include simplified legal requirements that charities must comply with before selling, transferring or leasing land, and new spending and borrowing rules.
Lloyds Bank Foundation support for Charities

Lloyds Bank Foundation help charities to grow stronger and more resilient so they can thrive beyond the lifetime of their funding. They do this by building relationships and working alongside charities, sharing LBF’s tools and resources, and drawing on their connections with Lloyds Banking Group and other partners.

Small and local charities can apply for grant funding from Lloyds Bank Foundation for England and Wales. Specialist charities with an annual income between £25,000 and £500,000 can apply for a three-year, unrestricted grant of up to £75,000.
Charities Act 2022 comes into force
13th November 2022
The first set of changes introduced under the Charities Act 2022 are now in force. The changes include powers for charities to pay trustees for providing goods and a reduction in the procedures surrounding fundraising appeals.
Key Fund’s new Flexible Finance Fund

This fund will be for established community and social enterprises, to complement our existing blended funds. It is a revolving facility available up to £150,000 that can be drawn and repaid flexibly, as needed for an initial period of up to five years. Any balance at the end of five years then converts into a standard loan, repayable over three years.
Relief from Business Rates in Leeds
20th October 2022
Leeds City Council launched a new discretionary relief from business rates scheme and are keen to target this financial support at Young Businesses and Social Enterprises. This scheme will enable these businesses to access up to 50% off their rates bill, up to £15k per annum.
