Key Fund’s new Flexible Finance Fund

This fund will be for established community and social enterprises, to complement our existing blended funds. It is a revolving facility available up to £150,000 that can be drawn and repaid flexibly, as needed for an initial period of up to five years. Any balance at the end of five years then converts into a standard loan, repayable over three years. 



Relief from Business Rates in Leeds

Leeds City Council launched a new discretionary relief from business rates scheme and are keen to target this financial support at Young Businesses and Social Enterprises. This scheme will enable these businesses to access up to 50% off their rates bill, up to £15k per annum.

Guidance on changes to charity law

The Charity Commission for England and Wales has released guidance for charities on changes to charity law as a result of the Charities Act 2022, which will amend the Charities Act 2011. The changes will come into force this autumn and throughout 2023.

Youth Investment Fund

Key Fund have been awarded £100m to provide to organisations supporting the youth sector as grants for capital projects. 

More businesses now eligible for Help to Grow

The Government has announced that the eligibility criteria for the Help to Grow: Digital scheme have been extended. Businesses with at least one employee, instead of six, are now eligible for support. The scheme provides discounts of up to £5,000 on approved software such as CRM, accounting and e-commerce packages. The scheme will also provide businesses with one-to-one advice on how to adopt digital technology.

New guidance on employment status

The Government has published new employment status guidance for businesses, workers and those in the gig economy. The guidance covers workers’ rights and clarifies the rights of gig economy workers. It also includes advice for start-ups, micro-businesses and smaller businesses.

Charity Commission releases guidance on changes to charity law

The regulator has released guidance for charities on changes to expect as a result of the Charities Act 2022, which will amend the Charities Act 2011.

The changes will come into force this autumn and throughout 2023, and the Charity Commission will publish updated guidance when the changes take effect. 

Increase in National Insurance threshold

The Class 1 National Insurance threshold has increased from £9,880 to £12,570. The change came into force on 6 July and was announced in the Spring Statement.

Government to fix banking problems faced by small charities

The Government is bringing together voluntary sector and finance leaders to address banking problems experienced by small charities. A survey by the Civil Society Group revealed that high street banking didn’t meet the needs of small charities and resulted in charity trustees holding money in personal accounts or keeping cash at home.
